The Property
A private Tutakaka Coast estate. Two ways to stay.
589 Ngunguru Road · Glenbervie · Northland

Tutakaka Coast & Country sits at the heart of one of Northland's most celebrated coastlines — close to world-class beaches, the Poor Knights Islands dive site, and Glenbervie Forest trail riding. It's the kind of location that rewards travellers who know where to look.

We offer two distinct guest experiences on the same exceptional property. For motorhome and caravan travellers, we're a premium Park Over Property — private grounds, pool, spa, and BBQ with coastal Northland on your doorstep. For equestrian travellers, we provide stabling, a tack room, a paddock, and a self-contained studio with breakfast — a genuine riding retreat on the Tutakaka Coast.

Both experiences share the same commitment: unhurried, private, and genuinely beautiful. Run by Ken and Lisa, who call this coast home.

The Tutakaka Coast
One of Northland's most celebrated coastlines — right here

The Tutakaka Coast is one of New Zealand's finest stretches of coastline — renowned for its beaches, deep-sea fishing, snorkelling, and the Poor Knights Islands, consistently ranked among the world's top ten dive sites.

For motorhome travellers, the coast offers exceptional day trips, fresh seafood, and beach access. For equestrian guests, Glenbervie Forest provides spectacular trail riding through native bush and pine — a very different coastal experience, equally memorable.

Park Over Property
Your vehicle, our piece of Northland paradise. Private coastal estate stays for self-contained travellers.
The Experience
Not a holiday park. Something considerably better.

Park Over Property is one of New Zealand's best-kept travel secrets — the chance to park your self-contained motorhome or caravan on a private property and be welcomed as a genuine guest rather than a registration number.

At Tutakaka Coast & Country, that means pulling into a working Northland lifestyle estate on the Tutakaka Coast. Wake up to rolling green hills, birdsong, and a pool, spa, and BBQ deck that most accommodation twice the price can't match.

We have four private bays available, with plenty of space on the property — if you're travelling with an additional vehicle, that's no problem at all. This is not a campground — it's private, considered, and exactly what the best kind of motorhome travel looks like.

The Tutakaka Coast
An exceptional base for Northland exploration

We're on the Tutakaka Coast — renowned for world-class beaches, deep-sea fishing, snorkelling, and the Poor Knights Islands, one of the world's top dive sites. Tutukaka Marina is a short drive for dive charters and fishing trips.

Glenbervie Forest is nearby for walking, mountain biking, and trail riding. Whangarei city is 20 minutes. Whether you're following the coastline north or taking a few days out from the road, this is a genuinely exceptional place to stop.

Tutakaka Coast & Country

Ken & Lisa

The people behind the property
Ken and Lisa

Ken and Lisa moved to the Tutakaka Coast this year, ready to begin their next chapter.

After many years in Auckland, they were both keen to find somewhere to build something new together — and Northland was always the answer. Lisa grew up in the area, and the pull of the coast, the forest, and a slower pace of life eventually brought them home. Tutakaka Coast & Country is their retirement project, built on a simple idea: open up this beautiful property to travellers who'd appreciate it as much as they do.

Ken spent years sailing competitively, including the Whitbread Round the World Race — an experience that left him with a lasting love of adventure, a deep respect for self-sufficient travel, and, handily, the practical skills of a qualified mechanic, which come in useful running a property like this one.

Lisa brings a different set of skills. She ran a successful home staging business for years, which explains why every space on the property is so considered. She also has a long history of fostering rescue dogs, and there's almost always one in residence alongside the family dog.

Between them, Ken and Lisa love travelling, meeting new people, and dogs — which is more or less the whole philosophy behind Tutakaka Coast & Country. Whether you're pulling in for a night in your motorhome or settling in with your horse for a few days, you'll likely meet them both, and quite possibly a four-legged welcoming committee too.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you arrive.
General

Yes — dogs are welcome for both Park Over Property and Equestrian Escape guests. We're dog people ourselves (there's almost always a rescue dog in residence alongside our own), so your dog will be in good company. Please keep dogs under control around the stables and paddock.
Is there a minimum stay?
One night is fine for both POP and equestrian stays, though we'd recommend at least 2 nights for equestrian guests so your horse has time to properly settle in.
Is the pool and spa available year-round?
Yes, both are available to guests throughout the year.
Are there age restrictions?
No age restrictions — families are welcome.
Is there wifi or phone signal on the property?
Mobile signal is generally reliable on the property. Wifi is available for Equestrian Escape studio guests. POP guests should plan to use mobile data, as wifi isn't currently provided for the bays.
Can I pay by card?
Yes — once we've confirmed your booking, we'll send a secure Stripe payment link for card payment.

No set limits — we currently have plenty of space. If you're travelling with an additional vehicle (such as a tow car or trailer), that's no problem at all. Just mention it when you enquire.

What happens in bad weather?
Stables and tack room are fully covered, and your horse will be comfortable regardless of weather. The paddock remains accessible, though we may suggest adjustments in very wet conditions to protect the grass and your horse's footing.
Do I need to bring my own feed and equipment?
Yes — please bring your own feed, water buckets, and grooming equipment. The tack room provides dry, secure storage, but we don't supply feed.
Can I bring more than one horse?
We currently have two stables, so up to two horses can be accommodated. Let us know when enquiring.
Can I stay in the studio without a horse?
Absolutely — the studio is available to guests who just want a beautiful rural retreat on the Tutakaka Coast, no horse required. The studio rate is the same whether you bring a horse or not. If you do bring a horse, a surcharge of $25 per horse, per night is added on top and managed through Airbnb. Book via our Airbnb listing or contact us directly to enquire.
